Cartographies features works in a variety of media that map the interrelationship between memory and matter. The four exhibited artists, Tiffany Chung, Tracey Moffatt, Sopheap Pich, and Pinaree Sanpitak, each engages in an active mapping process that plots the complex ways that memory – both personal memories of the artist and cultural memory, society’s sense of its history – is inextricably bound up with the physical world, with the specific properties of natural materials, the features of the landscape, the form of the body, and the environments defined by natural and manmade structures.
