Press Release
Upcoming Exhibitions: Fall / Winter 2010-11
August 1, 2010
Tyler Rollins Fine Art is pleased to announce our schedule of exhibitions for the Fall/Winter 2010-11 season.
MANUEL OCAMPO
An Arcane Recipe Involving Ingredients Cannibalized from the Reliquaries of Some Profane Illumination
September 16 – October 30, 2010
The most internationally active contemporary artist from the Philippines, Ocampo will present a solo exhibition at Tyler Rollins Fine Art of new paintings and woodcut panels that blend traditional Christian iconography with secular and political narratives, creating cryptic allegories that are at once ironic and disturbing. Ocampo has been an important voice on the international and Filipino scene since his first solo show in 1988. He is known for fearlessly attacking the taboos and cherished icons of society and of the art world itself. Widely respected in Europe, Asia, and the US, he has been included in numerous exhibitions in museums and biennials around the world, including Documenta and the Venice Biennale.
TIFFANY CHUNG
scratching the walls of memory
November 4 – December 31, 2010
Vietnam’s most prominent female contemporary artist, Chung is noted for her sculptures, videos, photographs, and performance work that use a pop aesthetic to conjure hyperreal visions which function as candy-colored doppelgangers to the more commonplace traumatic representations of Vietnam’s recent history. Her second solo exhibition at the gallery explores the topographic after-images of some of the past century’s most traumatic conflicts as inspired by maps of urban regions, featuring embroidery and appliqués on canvas, in addition to a number of works on paper. Chung has been fascinated with maps for many years, not only for their graphic possibilities but also for what they say about both our relation to the past and our visions of the future.
TRACEY MOFFATT
Plantation and Other
January 13 – February 26, 2011
Moffatt is one of today’s leading international visual artists working in photography, film and video. Many of her photographs and short films have achieved iconic status both in her home country of Australia and around the world. Her photographs play with many different printing processes and have a filmic, narrative quality. Moffatt approaches all her photographic and video work as a film director, and she is known as a powerful visual storyteller. Her solo exhibition at Tyler Rollins Fine Art will feature her recent photographic series, Plantation, as well as Other, the final work in her video series inspired by Hollywood films.
AGUS SUWAGE
New Works
March 3 – April 9, 2011
Agus Suwage is one of the giants of Indonesian contemporary art. His works have been widely exhibited around the world over the past few decades and are included in most major collections and surveys of Indonesian contemporary art. In 2009, the Jogja National Museum in Indonesia devoted all three floors of its building to a major retrospective of Suwage’s works of the past 25 years, including paintings, sculptures, and installations. So far his work has been little seen in the US, and so we are especially pleased to host his first US solo exhibition early next year.
